THE SHERIFF-ELECT

MICHELLE WOODFORK

Sheriff-Elect Michelle Woodfork was elected Sheriff of Orleans Parish in October 2025, earning 53% of the vote and avoiding a runoff. A proven leader and crime-fighter with more than 33 years in law enforcement, she has dedicated her career to making New Orleans safer through innovation, accountability, and community partnership.


A proud New Orleanian and lifelong resident of New Orleans East, Woodfork made history in 2022 as the first female Superintendent of the New Orleans Police Department. Under her leadership, violent crime dropped 25%, murders 23%, and carjackings 45%. She revitalized recruitment and launched community programs like the Junior Citizens Academy and a youth basketball league.


After retiring from NOPD in 2024, she became Director of Forensics and Intelligence for the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office, leading the Open-Source Intelligence Task Force to strengthen collaboration between law enforcement and prosecutors. She is a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy and Southern University at New Orleans, holding bachelor’s and master’s degrees in criminal justice. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., a recipient of numerous commendations including the 2017 Purple Heart Letter Award, and a proud mother to her son, Nick.

TRANSITION TEAM CO-CHAIRS

Sheriff-Elect Michelle Woodfork’s official transition will take place on May 4, 2026. Her Transition Team is co-chaired by respected community and law-enforcement leaders tasked with ensuring a smooth handoff and laying a foundation rooted in accountability, transparency, and trust. Together, they are building a forward-looking team focused on operational excellence, fiscal responsibility, and meaningful reform.

The transition will be led by Co-Executive Directors Gavin Lewis and Allen Square, two leaders with deep experience in public service and organizational reform. They will oversee a comprehensive plan centered on accountability, transparency, and efficiency to ensure a strong start to Sheriff-Elect Woodfork’s administration.
